September 8, 2017
September is here, bringing with it that back to school buzz. New pencils, new books, and new backpacks accompany many excited (or not so excited) students as they start a new year. It’s easy to forget that back to school shopping is not a financial option for every family in our community. Some of these families are clients here at The Northwest Catholic Counseling Center. But through the generosity of Gail Kingsley, from St. Mary’s Cathedral, several NCC families were blessed with new backpacks and new school supplies!
One of the recipients is a single mother with two children. She began one of her recent sessions by telling her therapist that she had stopped receiving child support and was completely broke. For the first time in their lives, she would not be able to afford the supplies her children needed for school. She was extremely grateful when she received two brand new backpacks filled with the essential supplies for her kids.
Three backpacks went to an immigrant family from Africa. The family has a 5-year-old, a 6-year-old, and a high schooler. They are all currently living in a small apartment with members of their extended family. When the backpacks were delivered, the apartment swelled with laughter and dancing.
On behalf of all of our grateful clients, thank you! Through the generosity of our donors, The Northwest Catholic Counseling Center will continue to serve and support members of our community.
